Béchamel Sauce with Almond Milk (White Sauce with Almond Milk)
This dairy free béchamel sauce or white sauce is made with almond milk. Perfect for dairy free scalloped potatoes and dairy free lasagna.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 cups unsweetened almond milk, heated
- Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed saucepan or skillet.
- Stir in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until the paste cooks for about 2 minutes, but don't let it brown.
- Add the hot almond milk, continuing to stir as the sauce thickens. Bring it to a boil.
- Add salt and pepper to taste, lower the heat and cook, stirring for another 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from the heat.
Notes
If the gravy becomes too thick, you can thin it out with a little more almond milk or water.
